Police have identified the suicidal gunman who killed two people and wounded seven others when he opened fire at an Idaho In-N-Out.

Chad Williams, 24, went on a deadly rifle-wielding rampage at the In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls on Saturday afternoon before killing himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police Chief Matthew Hicks said at a press conference Sunday.

“We want to take a moment and commend the actions of the off-duty officer and this citizen and their heroic action to stop this incident,” Hicks said.

“We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties.”

Harrowing footage captured a man with a handgun exchanging fire with Williams just outside the fast-food chain.

Williams, who appeared to be armed with an AR-style rifle, began opening fire at the restaurant around 2 p.m. Saturday before spilling into the parking lot in what Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks described as a “very chaotic” scene.

One In-N-Out employee dragged a wounded co-worker across the lot while others frantically tried to help until paramedics arrived, according to the outlet.

Video captured from a nearby vehicle appeared to show the gunman moving through the parking lot before pointing a rifle toward the driver’s-side window of a blue Tesla and firing twice.

Williams then lowered the weapon, moved away from the vehicle and ran across the lot with the firearm still in hand.

Williams acted alone, and his family has been fully cooperative in the investigation.

“Their hearts are also broken at this time,” Hicks said of Williams’s family.

An associate at the fast-food chain was killed in the shooting, In-N-Out Burger’s president Lynsi Snyder said in a statement. The two victims have not yet been identified by authorities.

Of the seven wounded in the gunfire, two have been treated and released from the hospital, three are in stable condition, and two remain in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon, police said.

Terry Dudley, a taxi driver in Twin Falls, was among those hit by bullets, according to a GoFundMe to raise money for his medical expenses.

Dudley, a widower and father-of-four, was shot twice in the back as he charged his Tesla, a co-worker wrote in a fundraiser statement.

“There are very few people in this world like Terry. He is the kind of man who quietly puts others before himself, who works hard, loves deeply, and never hesitates to lend a helping hand,” the statement said.

“He is tenacious, compassionate, kind-hearted, and has a way of making those around him smile, even on their hardest days.”

A motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and an investigation remains ongoing.
