Mother Of Nolan Xavier Wells

Ocean Springs, Mississippi — Hundreds of family members, friends, teammates, and community supporters gathered Monday at Center Pointe Church in Ocean Springs to honor the life of Nolan Xavier Wells, the 18-year-old college football player whose d34th remains under investigation following his disappearance during a July 4 boating trip to Horn Island, Mississippi.

During the emotional memorial service, Christine Wonsley, Nolan’s mother, encouraged everyone to carry on her son’s legacy by showing kindness, compassion, and love to others.

«Be like Nolan,» she told mourners, describing him as someone who made people feel welcomed, valued, and accepted wherever he went.

Her husband, Elmore Wonsley, also paid tribute to his son, remembering him as a talented athlete, devoted brother, and caring young man whose impact reached far beyond the football field.

The service was officiated by Rev. Al Sharpton, while civil rights attorney Ben Crump addressed the congregation and renewed the family’s call for transparency as the investigation continues.

Sharpton announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arr3st and conviction if criminal activity is ultimately established, with support from filmmaker Tyler Perry, who also covered the funeral expenses.

Nolan Xavier Wells, a former standout athlete at Ocean Springs High School and Southwest Mississippi Community College, disappeared after a boating trip with friends to Horn Island. His body was recovered two days later, but authorities have not yet released a final cause of d34th.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continues working alongside local authorities while an independent autopsy requested by the Wells family is also underway.

Among those attending the memorial or supporting the family’s search for answers were Spike Lee, Terrell Owens, Tyler Perry, Colin Kaepernick, Rev. Al Sharpton, and attorney Ben Crump.

As the investigation remains active, Christine Wonsley and Elmore Wonsley said they will continue seeking the truth while encouraging others to honor Nolan Xavier Wells by treating people with the same kindness, respect, and compassion that defined his life.
